Functional Neurological Disorder

What is it?

FND is a neurological condition that causes symptoms similar to those of other neurological conditions such as stroke and brain injury.

However, FND can be hard to understand, as there isn’t a physical cause for the symptoms, and the damage doesn’t show up on scans like those in strokes or brain injuries.

FND is caused by a problem within how the nervous system works, and causes a wide variety of symptoms.

It is estimated that around 50,000 to 100,000 adults live with FND in the UK.

You are more likely to develop following a traumatic event, either physically or emotionally.

However, there is no known cause for FND currently.

At Northern Neuro Rehab we understand that if you have FND, you are likely struggling with day to day living due to the neurological symptoms that you are experiencing.
