Cerebral Palsy
What is it?
Cerebral Palsy is a permanent neurological condition that occurs usually around birth, and does not progress in the life time of the person with cerebral palsy.
Damage to the brain before, during or just after birth results in cerebral palsy.
Cerebral palsy does not progress, but your functional abilities may change or decrease over time.
This can be due to secondary changes, such as muscle weakness or reduced range of movement.
At Northern Neuro Rehab we can provide specialist assessment and treatment to adults living with cerebral palsy, promoting optimal function and increased independence.
Some of the problems that may occur as a result of cerebral palsy include:
- reduced strength
- muscles stiffness and spasms
- reduced balance
- reduced range of movement
- altered walking or mobility
- reduced exercise tolerance
